Dior x Man Repeller 2017 Spring-Summer collection featuring five women “of today”: Indya Moore, Vivian Chin, Melina DiMarco, Leandra Medine and Angie Mar. Dior took the collaboration with the Man Repeller for SS17 collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
In recognition of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s strong feminist outlook, striving, as she stated herself, ‘to be attentive and open to the world and to create fashion that resembles the women of today’, Dior took the opportunity to partner with the Man Repeller. The project revolved around a shoot and discussion with 5 women ‘of today’, including Leandra Medine Cohen, the unrepentant fashion website’s founder, on what femininity and being a feminist means to them and how it influences their everyday life. Stay tuned for further insights from these 5 different women as they pose for the camera dressed in Dior Spring-Summer 2017.
A close-up of the details of the ‘J’adior’ flap bag from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Spring-Summer 2017 collection during the special project with Man Repeller. As the 5 women drawn from different backgrounds – whether chef, neurologist, model or site founder – challenged the strict definitions of their career, style and what ‘feminine’ means to them, they sported items from the Spring-Summer 2017 collection, of which the J’Adior flap bag was one!
Amongst the 5 women selected for the Dior partnership with Man Repeller was Indya Moore, a model and actress, who shared her thoughts on femininity and how it helps her define her strength, forcing her to stand up for her best interests. While discussing this, she wore Maria Grazia Chiuri’s ethereal ‘La Roue De La Fortune’ skirt. When asked how her outfit made her feel she chose terms such as ‘royal’ and ‘powerful’, in addition to ‘free, able and elegant’.
Everyone writes their own definitions in 2017. What it means to be a designer, an artist, a feminist — the list goes on — is no longer static, book-bound and shelved, but instead open for multiple interpretations. When Maria Grazia Chiuri took over as Dior’s first-ever female artistic director, that, too, was a blank canvas, an open space to sketch and paint multiple versions of what her Dior women looked like.
